Metal Training Collar Configuration

 The metal training collar is usually used with the dog on your left side.   In order to set the collar up correctly you need to:

  1. In your left hand hold one of the rings horizontally
  2. Drop the chain through the hole from above
  3. To test it, put it on your left hand and when you pull the "live ring" the collar should release when you allow slack
  4. Do not flip the collar, it is correct to go on the dog's head if they are facing forward like you

 Goal and Purpose of This Exercise:  We need a reliable sit in distractions to advance the training or change the unwanted behavior or your dog.    Equipment Needed:  Training Collar, Leather Leash, and Food Reward STEP 1:  Walk with your dog STEP 2:  Stop before doing anything STEP 3:  Say the command "Sit" STEP 4A:  If your dog completes the command correctly, say the praise marker word ("Good"), then use the release marker word ("Yes") as you give the food reward. STEP 4B:  If your dog does not sit, just set your dog up again and show them that you have the food reward.   You can also move him again under this method. STEP 5:  Repeat until you get four in a row 3 times without needing to cajole or give them a verbal correction OR after 15 minutes.

Week 1 Sit On The Dog

 Exercise: Sit on The Dog (do not confuse with the down exercise later on)  Equipment needed: Metal Training Collar, 6' leather lead, chair for handler to sit on that they aren't too worried about (IE an antique chair would not be a good idea, especially for a dog that might try to chew something other than their toy while you aren't watching), silence from the handler which means no verbal commands, praise, or corrections. Also, no conversations of any sort with your dog. NOTE:  THIS CAN ALSO BE DONE WITH A SLIP LEAD, TRANSITIONAL LEAD (NO NOSE LOOP), OR NYLON SLIP COLLAR INSTEAD OF THE METAL CHAIN TRAINING COLLAR AND 6’ LEATHER LEASH.   A FLAT COLLAR CAN BE USED IF IT IS SNUGGED UP SO IT CAN NOT GET OVER THE DOG’S HEAD.
